Paper Pulp Dryers

How much do paper pulp dryers cost?

Vulcan® Drying Systems Rotary Dryer

Description

The Vulcan® Drying Systems Pulp and Paper Residuals Drying System is custom-designed and manufactured to improve a customer's individual drying needs; whether it be reduction of mass for transportation or preparing the waste stream for an alternate use. These drying systems are designed specifically to dry each customer's product to their desired output moisture content range.

Specifications

Each Vulcan® Drying Systems Pulp and Paper Drying System is custom-built for each client. Systems may include the following components:

  • Feed horizontal conveyor
  • Rotary Dryer
  • Combustion chamber with burner
  • Secondary air blower
  • Ductwork
  • Cyclone or Baghouse
  • Induced air blower
  • Controls

Pulp and Paper Residuals Drying Process

The wet material is fed into the rotary dryer by a feed conveyor.  The material then travels through the drum rotating as it is exposed to a stream of warm air. As the drying is completed, the material exits the dryer through the knock out box. The moisture content of the dried material can be determined based off the customers desired range.

1. Feed Conveyor

The material is transported up an incline feed conveyor to a hopper on the Vulcan horizontal feed conveyor, prior to being dried in the rotary drum. Vulcan® Drying Systems offers state-of-the-art conveyors for each system manufactured in our facility.

2. Rotary Drum Dryer

The workhorse of the Vulcan® Drying Systems Pulp and Paper Residuals Dryer is the heavy-duty, low-temp, direct-heating rotary drum dryer. The low-temp dryer can be configured to utilize a variety of fuels to perform the drying process. Our single-pass system is a simple, low-cost method of producing a marketable product from biomass material. Low temperature is maintained by mounting a burner to a long refractory-lined chamber. Auxiliary air can be added in the chamber to keep the temperature levels low.

3. Material Discharge

As the dried material exits through the knock out box it is then directed onto a discharge conveyor for further processing.

4. Cyclone and Baghouse

Drying pulp and paper residuals can create dust. Fortunately, the included Vulcan® Drying Systems Cyclone and/or Baghouse removes particulate.

About Pulp & Paper

A variety of waste products are created throughout the paper production process. Paper and pulp waste is traditionally disposed of in a landfill, but doing so can present problems as the high chemical content of these wastes can cause harm to the surrounding environment if not disposed of properly.

The pulp and paper industry produces a high amount of waste because of the significant amount of water and energy using in the paper production process. The wastewater generated from paper production generally contains chemicals that can be hazardous to human health if not properly treated and processed.

The EPA has specific guidelines for the pulp, paper and paperboard industry because of the high potential for the various processes in the production of paper to cause harm to the environment. See the full regulations here.

When the moisture content of paper and pulp sludge is reduced, the material can be sold for reuse or recycled, avoiding the costs of landfilling and leading to potential economic benefits for the producer. Recycled paper and pulp waste can be used to make a variety of products, including paper products, textiles, diapers and feminine hygiene products.

Drying paper and pulp waste makes it easier to store, handle and transport. Once the moisture content of the material is sufficiently reduced, it can then be processed and recycled for reuse.

About the Pulp and Paper Industry

As paper products are created an excess by-product of wet residuals from the products is also created. In turn, more and more companies are experimenting and developing ideas for the use of that by-product, the Pulp and Paper residuals, versus land filling or are seeking ways to reduce moisture to lower transportation and land fill costs.

However, due to the high moisture content of the residuals, the by-product needs dried before it can be used. Therefore, many paper manufacturers are turning to Vulcan® Drying Systems to learn more about our drying solutions and how we can help the industry.
